In memoriam. A wonderful councillor, an awesome person.
It is with deep sorrow and extremely heavy hearts that we share the news of the sudden death of our friend, our colleague, long-standing member and councillor for Ward 3 Sinead Francis-Coan on Monday 23 June 2025.
Sinead was an integral part of our community and our movement whose vitality, kindness and endless community contributions touched many lives. Her passing is a profound and sudden loss not only to family and friends but to all of us who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her.
On behalf of the Newcastle Greens community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Sinead’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are with them and each other as we mourn this tragic and unexpected loss together.
Sinead will be most deeply missed. We are all completely heart-broken at this tragic event. We stand ready to help the community after taking a moment to grieve for our own loss.

Update 1 July 2025
As we continue to mourn the loss of our friend, colleague and comrade, Sinead Francis-Coan plans have moved forward to celebrate her life.
Working with Sinead’s family and the City of Newcastle, Sinead will be remembered at a funeral at the City Hall at 12.00pm on Saturday, 12 July. We would like to thank Sinead’s family, the council staff and councillors for the opportunity to use City Hall for this most fitting memorial.
Her family warmly welcomes anyone who wishes to attend.
