Let me assure you, it’s a bit of a mess at the moment! Lots going on.
Our Councillors, Therese and Michael haven’t had time to recover from campaigning mode. They are both working hard on current Council issues, liaising with community groups ,preparing Notice of Motions and off to the state Council Conference at the end of the month.
The Local Government Reference Group meets regularly and has an active google group of 40 or so members – they are doing a great job of advising Councillors of local issues. If you would like to join in, contact Cathy Burgess (coordinator) or Carrie (NG secretary).
The State Delegates Council meets this weekend in Newcastle. Newcastle Greens are presenting a motion to hold a National Ports Conference in Newcastle next year – so many issues that are affecting sustainable development and management of our Port are experienced by other communities, yet there is no cohesive or coordinated National Port Strategy that reflects a vision for the future.
Have you logged onto Senator Milne’s “What do you believe is too precious to lose?” site – great initiative and plenty of places to nominate in the Hunter region that should be represented at national level (like our surrounding agricultural lands).
Don’t forget to collect as many signatures as you can calling for the Commission of Inquiry into Port Development – Thanks to Dave and his inspirational cartoon printed below.
