Making the announcement, The Greens Lord Mayoral and Ward 4 candidate for Newcastle, John Sutton, said that preferences were likely to play a significant role in the council election.

“Obviously, we think that the best way that voters can deliver the kind of council that Newcastle needs at this crucial point in our history is to elect Greens candidates,” Mr Sutton said.

“Our subsequent preference recommendations for the Lord Mayoral and ward elections reflect our hope for a more progressive council, that will work more collaboratively with the Newcastle community,” Mr Sutton said.
