Join the Newcastle Greens on Clean Up Australia Day at the Carrington mangrove area.
People can register to help out at this site at the Clean Up Australia Day website, at:
http://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/Smedmore+Cove+Carrington
This site comprises a large mangrove stand beside Throsby Creek, just downstream of the Hannell St bridge.
The mangroves collect a huge amount of litter and other rubbish from the Throsby Creek catchment, so there’s always plenty of rubbish to collect at this site.
As well as other basic Clean Up Australia day equipment (hat, gloves, suncream, etc), make sure you bring gumboots to this site. A long set of tongs or a pick-up spike would also be useful, to avoid direct contact with litter and rubbish that can be quite wet and muddy.
